Maharshi Valmiki
Ramayana is one of the epic poems of
India. The Mahabharata has laid down the principles of a huge stream of work
flowing outside of family life and Ramayana has stated the great life style of
family life.
As soon as the house is the ashram,
the ideal of relationship between each member of this ashram can be great and
beautiful, it is known in the Ramayana text.
In fact, it is the Ramayana that has
come to be regarded as the ideal of the Indian family.
Ramayana story has been controlling
family life in India for ages. This is the excellence of this epic. There is no
comparison in the history of literature in the world.
Sage Valmiki is simultaneously the
notable character of this epic as well as the protagonist and author.
Surprisingly his life-story.
People mix good, evil, good and
evil. But Valmiki's life is a perfect example of how good sense can radically
change a person's life. In his early life he was a murderous bandit — bandit
Ratnakar. This bandit became Rishi Valmiki one day.
In ancient times there was a Brahmin
named Sumati. The name of the only son of this devout Brahmin was Ratnakar.
Although a Brahmin, Ratnakar was
devout in Devadvija. He had no interest in Brahmanical rituals and scriptures.
After all, he was a disobedient child of his parents. So his father had to bear
all the responsibilities of the family.
Where Sumati lived, there was a
great famine. As the family's upbringing became difficult, Sumati said he would
live elsewhere with his wife and son, he left home.
Once they traveled through different
countries, they came to a deep forest. Brahmin Sumati built a hut and started
living there.
By that time he was old. He has
become powerless even in work. As a result, the food supply of three people in
the world (family) was hampered.
Where is his ability to run the
family by earning Ratnakar? He was uneducated, so he was forced to accept
banditry. The path of the passers-by through that forest. Ratnakar is on that
path all day Sit on the edge. Whenever a passenger appears on the way to the
forest, he loots everything Killed later.
Ratnakar continued to support his
elderly parents in this way.
A long day passed like this. The
horror of the bandit Ratnakar spread all over the country outside the jungle.
At this time, realizing the good of
the world, God of Gods (Vidhatapurush) chose the bandit Ratnakar. He wanted to
embody its great ideal.
One day, under the direction of God,
the Saptarshis made a pilgrimage through the forest of Ratnakar in disguise.
The robber was hiding behind the
bushes. As soon as the pilgrims approached, he shouted and stood in front of
them. He said, "Take out whatever you have with you." And one last
time, pray to God like. I will kill you.
Anyone who meets Ratnakar once in
this way can never return with his life.
Rishi Atri, the sage among the
swordsmen, then said, "O robber (Ratnakar), listen to me before you kill
me."
We went on a pilgrimage. Wealth is
little with us. Why do you want to commit the sin of killing a sage for this
little money? Ratnakar said with a cruel smile, "Sage, I am not afraid of
sin." Because I did not take the robbery for myself.
Atri wanted to know, but for whom?
Ratnakar said, "I kill the
passers-by and plunder the wealth of the elderly parents and the wife and
son." So they will accept the sin of this deed.
Atri laughed and said, "You
fool, you are the only one responsible for what you are doing." No one
else in the world will share your sin.
On hearing this, Ratnakar When he
protested, Atri again said, "You tie us to a tree and go to your
house." There, ask your parents, wife and son, if they are willing to
share your sin.
Although Ratnakar was a bandit, he
was the son of a pious Brahmin. Though he did not have a mind for
"Religious Meditation or Religious Practices", the thoughts of
religious work result and the fear of sin were subtly present in his mind.
He was worried. Later the sages tied
him to a tree and hurried home Went back.
At first he went to his old father.
Wanted to know, Father, I am feeding you by banditry. Will you share in my sin
of robbery?
Listening to his son's words, old
Sumati said, "Son, it is the duty of every son to support his old
father." You are my son I can take service from you. But I cannot accept
your sin.
Ratnakar was upset when he heard his
father's words. This time he went to his wife. He got the same answer there.
After asking the mother and the son,
he found out that none of them were willing to accept his sin.
This time the heart of the robber
Ratnakar was opened. He saw that he was in the world Alone.
None of those who continue to sin
day after day for the sake of providing food for their mouths are willing to
accept responsibility for their sins. There is no one like him in the world.
Ratnakar left the house at that
moment. He ran to the sages under the tree. After untying them, he fell at the
feet of Sage Atri and longed to know the way to get rid of his sins.
The Maharshi reassured him, saying
that only in the name of Holy Rama can your sins be removed.
He then advised Ratnakar to chant
the name of Rama with concentration. The sages went on their way. Ratnakar sat
down to chant the name of Ram. His heart ached for fear of sin. Today he has
become desperate for self-purification.
Then day after day passed. Ratnakar
is sitting on the tree floor, forgetting his hunger and thirst and is immersed
in a way. The name of the holy Rama is being uttered breathlessly.
Once weeds grew around Ratnakar. The
whole body was covered with earthworms.
Ratnakar's body during the long
period of austere endeavour (sadhana) after receiving mantra initiation from
sage Atri. His name is Valmiki because he was covered with earthworms. He
became a great sage by chanting the name of Rama and gaining enlightenment.
Like the Valmik lining, all the
identities of the brutal bandits were dropped and a new identity of Ratnakar
was introduced.
Sage Valmiki established an ashram
on the banks of the river Tamasa. Like other sages, he is also an ashram
dweller. Sage Bharadwaj was his disciple.
One day Devarshi Narad came to
religious talk to Valmiki. At that time Valmiki asked him, O Devarshi, no news
of the whole Universe (Tribhuvan) is invisible to you, please tell me who is the
virtuous, pious, truthful ideal man in the world recently.
Devarshi Narad said, O sage, the
character you want to know about the best man with many qualities is rare
today. However, Rama, the son of Dasaratha of the Ikshabaku dynasty, is now on
earth. I'm telling you his story.
Then Narad narrated the life story
of Raja Ramchandra of Ayodhya. King Ramchandra was almost a contemporary of
sage Valmiki. The Ganges is south of his capital Ayodhya. Huge forests along
the banks of the Ganges. In the middle of that forest darkness has flowed
through mind blowing sound (Kulukulu). This is the beautiful ashram of sage on
the shores of Tamasa.
Narrated by Ramcharita, Narad left
for Paradise (Devlok) and Valmiki went to bathe in the river Tamasa. The
sweetness of Ramcharitra is all over his mind. Disciple Bharadwaj walked with
sage cloth (made in fiver of big tree, the Valkal).
While they were walking towards the
river through the dense forest path, a pair of Saras bird (crouch or conch
bock) was happily wandering in the branches of the tree.
A hunter saw the Saras bird from
behind the forest and shot it. The bird fell to the ground and began to squirm
in agony. The female Saras bird (Cronchi) saw his partner's condition and
started shouting in a sad voice.
Seeing this scene, simultaneous
anger and pity rose in Valmiki's heart. Rhythmic language came out of his mouth
unknowingly at that moment with the mouth of the sage obsessed with the pain of
the mourning female Saras bird (Cronchi):
Ma
Nishad! Pratisthan Tamagama: Shaswati Sama:
Yat
Kraunchamithunadekambadhi: Kammohitam.
O hunter, for this heinous act you
will be forever condemned in the society. Valmiki was surprised to hear his own
words. How could he recite such a rhythmic mourning song? The astonished sage
disciple then said to Bharadwaj, O Bharadwaj, this rhythmic melodious utterance
which came out of my mouth is emanating from mourning, therefore it will be
known as this verse (sloka).
The original verse is this rhythmic
melody uttered by sage Valmiki. Valmiki is said to be the original poet who
wrote the story of Rama in these verses.
While Valmiki was talking to
disciple Bharadwaj, the Lord Brahma appeared there. He said to Valmiki, O sage,
this verse came out of your mouth by my will today. Publicity the biography of
Rama (Ramjivani) that you have heard from the Narad in verse.
At the command of Lord Brahma, Valmiki then sat down to write the biography of Rama (Ramakahini). The story is
written in about twenty-four thousand verses. That is why it became known as
epic, "Ramayana".
